2017 Goals

Everyone has a different take on 2016, either it was an amazing year or a horrible year. To be honest isn’t it always a mix? Personally, I got the chance to compete at Harvard, travel to China with my best friend and intern at three different companies. But it also tested friendships in various forms. The past year taught me a variety of things about myself and I am proud to say that my one goal for 2016 was successfully accomplished.

But now that 2017 is here it’s time for a new goal. I tried to come up with at least 3 goals but then came to the realization that it’s better if I focus on one goal.

My 2017 goal is …

Not to sweat the small stuff.

Which if you know me, I tend to overthink and overanalyze … everything.

Therefore for a lack of words I need to learn to ‘chill’.

2017 I’m ready.

On a separate note, I wanted to share my thoughts on my favourite part of New Years (Eve). After watching the ball drop in New York, kissing & hugging your loved ones, Auld Lang Syne is played. Unfortunately this year I somehow missed it and in all honesty, I missed it.

There’s just something about listening to that song at the end of one year and the beginning of another. You can find it in emotional NYE scenes in movies like Sex & the City and When Harry Met Sally. If you don’t know what song I’m referring to please take a listen to one of the above two versions.

‘Auld land syne’ roughly translates to ‘for old times’ sake’, and is a song that is about maintaining old friendships and reviewing the events of the past year. It is actually a much-loved Scottish tradition to sing the song just before midnight in pubs or with family.

The first verse that most of us hear:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne.

Happy New Year!!!
